Summer Lovin' Had Me A blast!

Updated: Jul 26, 2021

Is a Healthy 'High' Possible?

It seems everyone wants to feel a daily buzz or a 'high' and thanks to ingenious advertising and marketing strategies, alcohol has now become a part of our every-day-life.

But let me ask you a question...what did you drink with dinner last night? Wine, a beer or a cocktail?

Now compare that to what you and your parents drank at family dinners growing up?

Coming from England, we all drank hot tea, milk, juice or water! Occasionally, we also were allowed soda, but very rarely - THANK GOODNESS!

Fast forward to today and most people I know have an alcoholic drink at dinner time, and get a little 'buzzed' or 'high'.

My question is, "Can we have a Healthy High?"

I absolutely love the summertime, not just for the outdoor activities, the sunshine and the beach, but also for all the delicious fresh foods and drinks - Chilled Wines, Juices, Cocktails, Mocktails, Iced Teas and Iced Coffees.

But if you are anything like me, you like the taste of alcoholic cocktails, but what we don’t like are the many undesirable side effects of alcohol — such as headaches, dehydration, aging not to mention alcohol’s link to breast cancer.

My friends and family who drink say things like:
"Who doesn’t love the relaxation, sense of freedom and calm you get from a drink?"

The trouble is, usually, its NOT just one drink.

It’s way too easily, for that ‘one glass of red’ to turn in to a bottle, even on a school night!” - moms tell me.

It sure seems like it!

People often succumb to peer-pressure: “All my friends or co-workers and friends are doing it, so why not?” Especially the after-work drinks.

In the 21st century, cocktail hours are synonymous with business networking, especially at conferences or trade shows. So what is the big deal?

As I mentioned earlier, there are many, and I mean MANY side-effects to drinking alcohol, starting with dehydration, head-aches, dizziness, vomiting, slurring your words, aging, organ-toxicity, dry skin, a weakened immune system, heart damage, liver disease, increased cancer risk, diabetes and weight gain, to name but a few!

So what do you do if you want to have a good time but don’t want to drink alcohol, or succumb to peer pressure?

That’s where CBD or CBG mocktails come in!

You can have a drink that’s tasty, healthy and feels celebratory but doesn’t leave you dehydrated or with a terrible hangover the next day. And what you'll likely find is, that by activating your endocannabinoid system, it puts you back in to balance and you feel pretty... well... AMAZING!

Not to mention - mocktails can actually boost your health by incorporating ingredients packed with nutrients like vitamins, minerals, enzymes and anti-oxidants; they’re not prone to addiction like alcoholic beverages and they’re safe for anyone, including pregnant women, the elderly and even children.

So how can you start replacing those unhealthy adult beverages with mocktails? I’m glad you asked.

My Favourite CBD Mocktail

Also known as a 'Zero Proof' drink, the Oxford Lexico defines 'Mocktail' as a North American word meaning:

  • “A non-alcoholic drink consisting of a mixture of fruit juices or other soft drinks.”

For me though, the best mocktails should always include healthy ingredients that offer you not just a tasty beverage, but health benefits as well. ALWAYS look for recipes that are NOT high in sugar or empty calories, and incorporate fresh herbs or organic fruit.

Personally, I also recommend a really high-quality mineral water.

I like to use Mountain Valley Spring Water who’s website states: “We pride ourselves on truth, integrity, and pure American spring water. Rising naturally from a spring in the Ouachitas, The Mountain Valley spring water filters through granite-based aquifers collecting all the pure, healthy, goodness from the land. Our water is sodium-free with a naturally detoxifying pH and rich blend of calcium, magnesium and potassium.”

The Ouachitas are from western Arkansas to southeastern Oklahoma. The mountains are also home to many natural wonders. Together with the Ozark Plateaus they comprise the U.S. Interior Highlands, which is one of the few mountain ranges between the Appalachians and Rockies. *I have no affiliation with this company, I'm just a fan of their quality spring water.

  1. Use high quality, sparking mineral water (not soda water) as a great go-to base for a healthy mocktail.

  2. Adding freshly made juices is great too with the next best option being organic, unsweetened juices.

  3. If your recipe requires you to use simple syrup, make it yourself but do NOT use white refined sugar! It's a big NO-NO! (I don't think I need to explain how destructive white sugar is to your entire health and well-being?) There are plenty of alternatives. I use organic Rapadura (dehydrated cane juice) organic Maple syrup, or local (raw) honey.

  4. Adding a high quality CBD, CBG or combo Tincture will activate your endocannabinoid system so you feel balanced, relaxed and can have fun! A full dropper of our Badass Bandit 1:1 tincture provides a 20mgs of CBD and 20mgs of CBG, which is 40mgs and a pretty strong dose. I recommend 1/2 a dropper, and wait 15 minutes, because you should feel it.

Well, it's hard to describe it exactly because it's VERY subtle at first, and can be different for each person. But let me give you an example:

When we lived in California, we hosted a monthly event called the 'CBD Supper Club' where 40 or more of us would get together at our home to enjoy a meal cooked by a 5-star chef, and the only thing to drink were our CBD mocktails and sparking water. This was a risky decision, especially considering that everyone was a drinker. I made that decision because I really wanted people to feel the effects of the CBD. When people arrived we would serve them a Mocktail, to which they'd typically comment, "Mmm...Surprisingly it tastes delicious", and then later they would ALWAYS come back for more stating "This CBD mocktail is so 'more-ish'!"

What was most fulfilling to me was watching people from various walks of life getting along, joking, having fun, dancing.

I heard people having passionate conversations, smiling, eating, laughing as we were building community.

People would come up to me and say; "I don't know what you've put in that drink, but I feel wonderful!"

It's challenging to explain the ECS or the endocannabinoid system over mocktails, and especially the concept of clinical endocannabinoid deficiency syndrome (CECSD).

Clinical what syndrome?

In short, cannabinoids are known to positively effect our mood by helping us to relax, reduce stress and anxiety, and bringing a feeling of calm and well-being. What having a deficiency means, is that the person is not producing enough of their own (endo or inner) cannabinoids to be in balance, or "homeostasis" as science defines it.

So when we supplement with plant or phyto-cannabinoids like CBD, THC, CBC, CBN and CBG, we bring our entire system back to HOMEOSTATSIS.

NEWS-FLASH: CBG activates the same receptors as THC, but does NOT intoxicate you!

This is one of the main reasons we love Cannabigerol, because CBG activates the CB1-and CB-2 receptors, the exact same receptors as THC. Yes, THC is the cannabinoid that has many health benefits but can also give you an intoxicated feeling. However, CBG is amazing as it manages to give the physical and mental health benefits WITHOUT the intoxication. YAY! 🤸

That's what I call a 'healthy high' or naturally 'raising your vibration!'

So what are some of the best/healthiest mocktail ingredients?

  • Naturally sparkling mineral water

  • Pomegranate juice

  • Unsweetened cranberry juice

  • Acai berry juice

  • Noni juice

  • Kombucha

  • Green tea

  • Coconut Water

  • Coconut milk

  • Pieces of whole fruit or vegetables

  • Fresh herbs like mint and basil

  • Spices like cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves

  • Citrus, especially peels and zest

Below you’ll find my favorite recipe that has been tried and tested and received the best testimonials at our CBD Supper Club, at our Wellness events or when we have a BBQ!

Sip or swig, you can’t go wrong with this super impressive-tasting, non-boozy cocktail which will leave your guests Wanting MO!

This fresh mint, lemon and “Caramel-y Simple Syrup” combo gets even better with CBD:CBG from

Q: But what is “Caramel-y Simple Syrup”?

A: It’s simple syrup made with Rapadura.

Q: What is Rapadura?

A: See explanation below

Quoted from their website:

Rapadura captures the sweet essence of sugar cane - organically. This deliciously pure UN-refined sugar, prized for its unique caramel flavor and grainy texture, retains a beautiful golden color and offers unmatched nutritional value because unlike other sugars - it is not separated from the molasses stream during squeeze-dried processing.

Delivering pure flavor and superior culinary results, it is the perfect substitute for white sugar and can be added to your favorite food, drinks and baking.

WantMo Mocktail Ingredient List:

(makes 2 liters = 67 Ounces = 8.375 Cups)

However, you can really stretch this recipe out to 12 drinks by adding plenty of ice to the glass

  • Simple Syrup: 1 cup Rapadura: 1 cup of filtered or alkaline water

  • Limes: 6 sliced into wedges

  • Mint: Bunch of fresh mint leaves, (smashed to release the essential oils) plus a few for garnish

  • Sparkling Mineral Water: 2 x 1 Liter bottles of high quality

  • Badass Bandit CBD:CBG Tincture

  • Ice: 1 bag

First to make the Simple Syrup.

TIP: Best if you can make this an hour or more ahead to allow it to cool down.

Over a low heat, stir 1 cup of Rapadura sugar with 1 cup of filtered water in a sauce pan. Stir until all the Rapadura has all dissolved. About 3 minutes. Rapadura has a delicious caramel-like aroma and dark brown color. Take pan off heat to cool.

TIP: Add a few smashed mint leaves and let the liquid fully cool.

While it’s cooling:

1) Take a lime and rub around a highball glass. Dip glass in Rapadura sugar to create a sugared rim. You can also add spices such as cinnamon, ginger or star anise, but the Rapadura alone is delicious!

2) In the bottom of a highball glass, muddle the lime wedges and the mint leaves.

3) Add ice, then stir in the syrup and Sparking water in a 1:4 ration (meaning 1 part syrup to 4 parts water). taste for sweetness. If you prefer sweeter add more syrup.

4) Top it off with half a dropper of CBD:CBG Tincture. (1/2 dropper is 20 mgs, a full dropper is 40mgs)

Add mint leaves to garnish. Voila!
